BYU Does The Expected

I can't say that I am at all surprised that BYU lost another close game to a decent NCAA Tourney team. I think I could have called that game play by play before it even happened. I have seen the same thing so many times, it is really starting to get funny. BYU makes good games out of their tournament appearances, but they like to let at least one guy on the other team always get a career high in points, shooting %, or any other category you can think of. They will then choke at the end of the game wile still making the score look respectable, and leave us all to say for yet another time..."they should be really good next year."

**BYU v. A&M Prediction**

So I have been so busy with school it has been hard to blog the past couple days, but I have to get in my pick for the BYU v. Texas A&M game so that it is said before the game starts. Since it is against all I believe in to actually pick against BYU I am picking them to win 63-59. My expectations are low, I hope they can come through big!

BYU to Face Texas A&M in 1st Round of NCAA Tourney

BYU (27-7) vs. Texas A&M (24-10)

Well, the NCAA tournament brackets are finally out, and BYU will be an 8 seed and will take on 9 seed Texas A&M in Anaheim, CA on Thursday. Texas A&M ended the season 24-10 and lost in the semi-finals of the Big 12 conference tournament by only 6 points to #1 seed Kansas. Texas A&M will be yet another tough first round opponent for BYU. Normally I would complain about BYU getting the toughest first round games and getting low seeds, but I am of the thought this year that BYU had their destiny in their own hands...and blew it! All they had to do was win the conference tournament like they should (if they are really an elite team). If they would have taken care of business in their own conference tournament, then they would have had a much better first round match-up. Stay tuned for my first round prediction in the next few days.

A Little President Bush Humor (No political agenda intended)

-For the record, I am a President Bush fan, this is just a great impression.

New LDS Website Focusing Jesus Christ

The LDS Church has put out a new web-site that is dedicated to the life, teachings, and testimonies of Jesus Christ. The front page has a link to a "modern prophets testimony of Jesus Christ" that is given by the recently passed President of the Church Gordon B. Hinckley. This is a great site to read, and to send your friends who are searching for something in their lives. Check it out!!

MWC Tounrament Second Round

BYU is in the second round of Mountain West Conference Tourney play after whooping Colorado St. 89-62 yesterday, and will face San Diego St. tonight at 7:30pm MST. BYU split the season series with San Diego St. and both games were very close. This is the type of team that BYU usually struggles with, and will be a tough game. I predict BYU by 4. Utah had a nice win against a better New Mexico team, and will face UNLV tonight. I predict UNLV by 9 in this one. That will put a BYU vs. UNLV tournament final for the second straight year. We shall see!!!

BYU Ranked in Both Polls...Still No Respect

Co-MWC Players of the year: Lee Cummard (left) JR Giddens (right)

Byu is now ranked #23 in the USA Today/ESPN Coaches poll, #24 in the Associated Press Poll, and they have a #21 RPI. This a a pretty big accomplishment, especially since only 5 teams in the entire country have been ranked in the top 25 in both football and basketball.
The Mountain West Conference decided to reward BYU with not giving Coach Dave Rose the Coach of the Year award, making Lee Cummard share the Player of the Year award instead of winning it outright, and only having 2 other BYU players on the 1st, 2nd, 3rd, and honorable mention teams. My guess is that the conference did not want to give Coach Rose yet another Coach of the Year award because he has already won it twice. This same issue occured in football as well. All Bronco Mendenhall did was go undefeated in conference play again (2 years in a row), and guide his team to a second consecutive top 15 national ranking, only for the Mountain West Conference to give Coach of the Year honors to Air Force coach Troy Calhoon. Not only this, but the very channel that is dedicated to the Mountain West, the MTN, refuses to lead of its recap shows with BYU in football or basketball even though they are the only ranked teams, and by far the flagship of the conference.
If you could not tell, it is a little frustrating at times to be a BYU fan. Granted I am bias, I admit that, but fan or foe, everyone who knows anything about BYU or the Mountain West Conference knows that how BYU goes, so goes the conference.

**Quick Facts**
BYU has gone 27-5 in conference play in the past 2 years in basketball.
BYU is 16-0 in conference play in the past 2 years in football.
BYU has been ranked as high as #21 in basketball the past 2 years
BYU has been ranked as high as #14 in football the past 2 years

I'd say the conference needs to quit being so jealous and recognize who is their flagship program!!

Upcoming Schedule:
NO. 23/24 BYU COUGARS -- #1 SEED (25-6, 14-2 MWC)
VS.
WYOMING -- #8 SEED / COLORADO STATE -- #9 SEED
Thursday, March 13, 2008
Thomas & Mack Center (18,500)
Las Vegas
Noon PT (1 p.m. MT)

**Update BYU Wins last Regualer Season Game**

So I called it, well kind of. BYU won its final regular season game 61-54 over the TCU Horned Frogs. TCU did make it a closer game than anticipated, but a win is a win. BYU moves on to face the winner of Wyoming v. Colorado St. on Thrusday. BYU will go into the Mt.West Conference tournament as the #1 seed for the second straight year, but as always it will be tough to win since the tourney is on UNLV's home court. It is worth noting that BYU also won the most regular season games in school history with 25, beating the previous mark of 24. GO COUGS!

Bold Predicitons

I thought I would share my crazy predictions for the BYU Men's basketball team for the remainder of the year. If at any time they exceed my predictions, I retain the right to make new predictions at that time.

Tonight is the last regular season game for BYU. They play TCU on the road. To some this is a trap game. BYU has already won the outright conference championship, is ranked 24th in the nation, and has almost assuredly clinched a spot in the NCAA tournament. I predict BYU beats TCU 73-59.

The Mountain West Conference Tournament kicks off in Las Vegas next wed. with the 8,9 play in game. The winner of that takes on BYU. The most likely opponent is Wyoming. I predict BYU rolls in the first 2 rounds of tournament play. From there I think they will face either New Mexico of UNLV, which I predict they will lose a close game.

Due to another year of regular season MWC champions, and another year losing in the MWC tourney championship game, I predict a 9 seed for BYU in the NCAA tournament. I also will go on the record as saying that BYU will win its first game in the NCAA tournament in 15 years. After that, they will lose in the second round in a close game. This of course will depend on the bracket they fall into, and the match-ups, but at least a second round showing will be improvement. This will propel them into next season in which the entire core of their team is back. Trent Plaisted (if he does the right thing and stays one more year), Lee Cummard, and a host of young talent.

Let me know if you think I am wrong, but I rarely am!!

Do Most Women Hate Sports?

Well, I can understand that woman hating sports!
All over the country, men have a common problem...their unwavering love of sports! This can be a problem for many reasons, but the most common issue that arises is between husband and wife.
On a personal note, I am not sure my wife really understood what she was getting into when marrying me. Little did she know she was also marrying the BYU Cougar Football/Basketball team, the Atlanta Braves, and seasonal tournaments in March, June, and October. The realization of sharing her husbands attention came quickly and firmly like a Roger Clemens HGH induced fastball. So what is a man to do? I would say men typically have their family, cars, and 1-2 sports teams they truly call their "loves." Women on the other hand typically have their family, friends, favorite county music star (Tim McGraw), actor (Orlando Bloom, Brat Pitt ect.) clothing store, soup & salad place, Target, Bath & Body Works, and probably much more. SO what is the big difference between her "loves" and ours? Well, I think it can be simplified in one word...PASSION. Of all the things that women love, I think it is hard to find a love that compares to the love men have for sports. This can easily become a problem when a man starts choosing games, sporting events, city leagues and the like over his family. So what do we do as men to have the best of both worlds? I give you two options:
1. Quickly read and learn mythical mind tricks to perform on your wife with the goal to get her to be a passionate of a fan as you are.
2. Put things more into perspective and try and remember when the last time your sports team loved you back as much as your wife.
This being said, I do believe that it is imperative that women/wives remember that sports are not bad. They are great motivators, fun, entertaining, usually wholesome, and they are great releases of stress (unless you are a BYU/Braves fan). We as men HIGHLY recommend you join in the fun! Just because your man loves and is passionate about sports is not a bad thing, let him live and die by his teams, as long as he also lives and dies for his family.

The Start of Something Great

So I have quickly come to the conclusion that to be "cool" nowdays I have to be able to say the words "my blog." Since I am soon going to be able to call myself a college graduate and have a little more time on my hands, I thought it was time to share my newly educated mind with the masses. This blog, to take a phrase from Glenn Beck, will have a "FUSION" of sports, politics, religion, and maybe a little business from time to time. When this ends up going national, I will always remember those who were with me from the beginning! Thanks, and ENJOY!!
